Michael Greger, M.D., is a physician, author, and internationally recognized professional speaker on a number of important public health issues. Dr. Greger has been invited to lecture at countless universities, medical schools and conferences around the world, including the Conference on World Affairs, the International Bird Flu Summit, and the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Greger is a general practitioner specializing in clinical nutrition and a founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He is author of Heart Failure: Diary of a Third Year Medical Student, Carbophobia: The Scary Truth Behind America's Low Carb Craze, and his latest, Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching, as well as contributing to a number of other books on nutrition and food safety issues. Dr. Greger is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Agriculture and the Tufts University School of Medicine.
As Farm Sanctuary's Chief Medical Investigator, Dr. Greger debated the National Cattlemen's Beef Association Director before the FDA and was invited as an expert witness to defend Oprah Winfrey in the infamous "meat defamation trial." Dr. Greger was featured on the Healthy Living Channel promoting his latest DVD and honored to teach part of Dr. T. Colin Campbell's esteemed nutrition course at Cornell University.
Following his launch of AtkinsExposed.org, Dr. Greger resumed his busy speaking schedule promoting his last book Carbophobia, published by Lantern Books. All proceeds he receives from the sale of his books, CDs, and DVDs are all donated to charity.
Dr. Greger is currently the Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at The Humane Society of the United States, helping forward their mission to "create a humane and sustainable world for all animals, including people, through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion." Dr. Greger is currently on a limited speaking schedule to promote his latest book Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching. August 2006, he was honored to participate in a Department of Homeland Security Pandemic Influenza Tabletop Exercise.
